Necessary Generation “NeGe”, is a national non-governmental or nonprofit organization, dedicated to empowering and supporting youth to live a dignified life. Based in Kamembe sector, Rusizi district in the Western Province of Rwanda; NeGe is staffed entirely by youth members, who work with thousands of youths and children in both urban and rural areas.
The organization focuses on program areas such as education, ICT, economic development, health, peace building and environment development. NeGe strives to remove any obstacles to youth empowerment, so they can havesustainable livelihoods and successful living standards. NeGe is unique in that it encourages youth to come up with their own solutions, through collective social, economic, cultural, and environmental, peace, and technological initiatives.
Education programs include providing young people with educational opportunities, such as literacy and numeracy programs, ICT topoafter-school tutoring, and college and career readiness support. In the realm of ICT, NeGe aims to provide young people with access to technology, digital skills training, and information resources, to support their personal and professional development. The organization's economic development programs aim to provide young people with job training, entrepreneurship support, and financial education to support their economic self-sufficiency.
Health programs are designed to promote the physical and mental well-being of young people through health education and access to health services, such as preventive care, counseling, and substance abuse treatment.
Additionally, community engagement initiatives work to engage young people in community service and civic engagement activities, such as volunteering, mentorship, and leadership programs.
The organization also advocates for policies and programs that support the well-being and success of young people in the areas of education, ICT, economic development, and health. This includes conducting research to better understand the challenges faced by youth and identify effective solutions.
The brain behind the creation of Necessary Generation is Nduwimana Jean Paul; an artist, philanthropist and entrepreneur. He got this idea in 2008 and since then started serving his community starting from street children from his neighborhood who most of them were the fans of his music. The founder and his colleagues recognized the need for youth to play a greater role in the development of their own communities and founded the organization to assist marginalized and disenfranchised youth. With its youth-inclusive approach and emphasis on empowering youth to create and sustain their own solutions, NeGe is leading the way in youth development in Rwanda.
The organization aims to remove barriers to youth empowerment so that they can achieve sustainable livelihoods and improve their quality of life.
Located in Kamembe, Rusizi district, Western Province of Rwanda, NeGe is staffed entirely by youth and serves marginalized and disadvantaged young people by providing them with the tools and resources to improve their economic and health status, access technology and information, and understand their rights as citizens.
